The design idea
Ranunculos Villa is located in Herdade da Aroeira which is famous for its golf courses.
As we were designing for an introverted family, our main challenge was to have a protected view to the golf course and keep privacy of the family from being seen directly from outside.
In order to maximize the privacy, we covered southern façade in the first level but we let the sun shine to come inside the building from the second level. This has been leaded to a game between lights, shapes and shadows.
But this building is totally open to its own court yard and while keeping distance, it is golf view as well, based on the owners’ ambitions.
These round shapes, conduct the eye in the space and simultaneously they are like a canvas for the lights. These are the stages for light to play its own role.
Although it was a cubic building at the first etude, we added some curves to bring sense of softness for further residents.
As the suns position changing during the day and the year it means we encounter with a new light dance during the time.
With integrating physical aspect of space with subjective cognition of it, in this project, we tried to create a complete human experience of presence in Home.
